Conferences and retreats

Everyone there opted in.Go for the session you didn't pick.

Nobody has to be at a conference, which is why the people there are open to meeting you. At the Milken Institute conference the sisters went for finance and philanthropy — and the session that blew their minds was a live policy debate. This plans for both halves.

  • Going in

I'll attend these few panels and that'll be great.

    In the room

The conversation that blew my mind was the one I didn't expect.

At the Milken Institute conference they went for finance and philanthropy. The highlight was Rahm Emanuel and Glenn Youngkin debating policy live — more candid than TV, because the room was small.

  • Going in

I feel so alone, and there's like a hundred people next to me.

    In the room

Everyone there opted in, so for the most part they are open to meeting you.

Nobody has to be at a conference. They point to their Matt Abrahams episode for how to walk up to someone when you have come alone.

  • Going in

    Take some notes, go home.

    In the room

It made me more curious about it, and made me want to learn more and maybe get involved.

The best outcome of a room is a new question. Neither of them is a policy person; both came out interested in policy.

  • Going in

    Stick to the routine.

    In the room

Change your environment every now and then, and learn by doing.

Their retreat in the Arizona desert — equine therapy, a drum circle, stargazing. Routine is good; getting out of it is what makes this kind of learning land.
